The Company has 68 shares with around 55 shareholders at any one time – some shareholders owning more than one share. Shares are traded publicly and are listed on the NZ Companies Office Website. Five elected directors provide governance and overall business management while the day-to-day management of the Lodge is carried out by a manager under contract to the Company. The Lodge Manager has accommodation on site in a 2 bedroom cottage with office attached.
To meet the high quality low cost company vision, vacant rooms are let to the public and the fees generated have covered all costs of maintaining the Lodge to a very high standard, with healthy working reserves, resulting in no annual fees to shareholders for the last twenty years.
Benefits of Owning and Altamont Share
Owning a share in Altamont allows the shareholder(s) to hold an occupancy license and the licencee(s) can nominate one person to be the nominated occupier. It is the nominated occupier, the partner of this person and the dependent children of this partnership that have the right to occupy up to 28 room nights a year at the minimal cost of $10 room/night. Rooms can sleep up to five people and as long as the shareholder or partner is present the room can be filled with family or friends.
Shares price is set by the market and is based on supply and demand. An independent valuation in 2010 and government valuation in 2011, plus reserves value the Lodge at around $1,400,000 or $20,000 per share. For details of the valuations see below.
